Skiing in Europe is an activity that is very much part of our winter lifestyle.
These are the weeks when many people, taking advantage of more sunshine, clear weather and some days off during the Carnival holidays, are up in the mountains on the slopes and enjoy ski holidays in Europe.
Polo Marco Experience is out for you on the Alpine slopes!
At Polo Marco Experience we are well aware that for Indian travellers cold and snow are not at all a usual and comfortable environment, however we sense that for a growing number of Indian people snow holidays in Europe can be indeed very attractive for their uniqueness: it’s an out-of-the-ordinary experience!
That is why, having the specific needs of your guests in mind, Polo Marco Experience‘s team has recently been on the field to personally check some great skiing resorts in Europe, on the western side of the Alps: a couple of very popular locations, as well as other still undiscovered small gems…
And that’s how we work, not only for skiing holidays in Europe: it’s Polo Marco Experience’s usual way to scout for new places and exclusive experiences for our guests!
Since our set-up, six years back, Polo Marco Experience has been invited as Preferred Hosted Buyer to the major European events concerning luxury and MICE travel: IBTM World, ILTM Cannes, Private Luxury Forum and others have led us onto the slopes of Zermatt, the Dolomites and Slovenia this winter…
Let’s climb up to our selected skiing areas in Europe and… by the way, keep in mind that all of them offer great outdoor opportunities also in summer time!
ZERMATT, Switzerland[Train is the most convenient means of transport since Zermatt is a car-free resort: you reach in 3,5 hours from Zurich Airport and 4 hours from Geneva airport. About 2 hours’ drive to Lake Maggiore, Italy]
The peak of Matterhorn, iconic shape in the mind of almost every Indian traveller to Europe, stands majestically watching over the Swiss-Italian border: on the other side of the Alps there are Lake Maggiore and Lake Como.
Around the relaxing car-free town there are 360 km of slopes: a skiers’ paradise! And non-skiers can relax on the sunny terraces of the mountain restaurants.
And for all the igloo village Zermatt on Rotenboden offers an incomparable experience at record altitude of 2727 m. The igloos are designed by international artists and reconstructed every year. During the day the igloo bar offers a delicious Swiss cheese fondue and homemade, white igloo mulled wine to keep warm!
Further options for your guests’ snow holidays in Europe: sledging, snowshoeing, curling, ice-skating, indoor climbing… along with luxury chalets
THE DOLOMITES, Italy
· Cortina d’Ampezzo[by car 2 hours from Venice Airport]
Pearl of the Dolomites (UNESCO heritage since a couple of years), for its precious lifestyle and stunning rocky peaks, refined sculptures by Nature…
Cortina became renowned worldwide after hosting the Winter Olympics back in 1956 and since the 60s synonymous to luxury holidays and jet set backdrop, especially in winter time, during the ski holidays.
Thus also nowadays, your guests, along with the feeling of a certain nostalgic atmosphere, can rely on professional high-standard hospitality and catering for a great winter experience!
· San Cassiano in Alta Badia[by car 2,5 hours from Venice Airport]
Here we are very close to the German-speaking area of Italy, South Tyrol, immersed in a young international atmosphere: this little town is boasting several high-level gourmet restaurants, two of which awarded with Michelin stars.
Ski-enthusiasts can slide down the Gran Risa World Cup-slope, as well as experience the famous Sella Ronda ski circuit around the Sella peak.
A highlight for every new visitor, especially from abroad, is mine tunnel blown up in 1917 on Mount Lagazuoi, the most daring gallery system ever built during WWI, that took place also in this area. The entrance can easily be reached from the mountain station of the funicular.
ACROSS 3 BORDERS: Italy-Slovenia-Austria
This area of Europe, for its geographical position and morphology, has been since prehistoric times the place where 3 major European cultures have mingled, peacefully in some periods (as under the Austro-Hungarian empire), but also in fierceful opposition in other times (during WWI and WWII): Latin, Germanic and Slavic cultures, that nowadays coexist in many aspects of local languages, folklore and culinary tradition.
And also the 3 peaks which we have recently experienced with the skis on our feet, seem nowadays to be engaged in a “peaceful conversation” across their 3 borders!
The main themes of this conversation about ski holidays in Europe are: well-maintained slopes, great views from the top (even to the Adriatic sea on very clear days!), excellent gastronomy and even some relaxation at the SPA…
· Zoncolan (ITALY)[by car 1 hour 15 min from Trieste Airport, about 2 hours from Venice airport; 75 km to the center of Udine, 150 km to the center of Trieste, 200 km to the island of Venice]
The steep winding road leading up to mid-height of the peak is one of the hardest legs of Italy’s top professional bike race, “Giro d’Italia”.
But the quickest and easiest way to reach Zoncolan’s peak, at about 1800 m, is by cable car from the town of Ravascletto. On top there are 22 km of slopes, as well as a cross-country skiing circuit, designed as early as in the 20s, where the very first international competitions took place.
And in 20 minutes’ drive from Ravascletto your guests reach Terme di Arta SPA center for a moment of wellness and relaxation.
· Krvavec (SLOVENIA)[by car 10 min from Ljubljana Airport-Brnik, 1 hour from Trieste Airport; 25 km to the center of Ljubljana, capital city of Slovenia, 35 km to Lake Bled, 100 km to the city of Trieste]
This is Slovenia’s best ski resort and the closest one to any international airport in Europe… unexpected!
A great plus if your clients wish to combine more different experiences and destinations during their snow holidays in Europe!
Krvavec, with 30 kilometres of perfectly maintained ski runs, at 1,450m to 1,971m above sea level, guarantees 100 skiing days each season for recreational and professional skiers, as well as beginners.
Along with snow shoeing and night sledging, adventurous non-skiers can experience one of the winter new hits: snow biking!
And at about 30 minutes’ drive from the lower station of the cable car your guests can relax at highest lying spa in Slovenia : Terme Snovik, ecoworld of thermal delights, over 1000 square meters of indoor and outdoor pools, top quality thermal water for bathing and drinking.
· Gerlitzer Alpe (AUSTRIA)[by car 1 hour 15 min from Trieste Airport, about 2 hours from Venice airport; 25 km to the center of Udine, 25 km to the center of Trieste, 200 km to the island of Venice]
As Carinthia is Austria’s Lakeland, it seems appropriate that the province’s most central ski resort should have a gondola lift rising directly from the shores of a lake, and with splendid views of Ossiacher See!
Gerlitzen is a small family friendly ski resort, ideal for beginners and improving skiers, with 60 kilometres of slopes served by 14 lifts.
For those who don’t want to spend every minute skiing or boarding, there are sleigh rides, tobogganing and snowshoeing.
And for even more relaxation and family fun in less than 30 minutes’ drive your guests can head to Kaernten Therme in Warmbad Villach, with state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor thermal pools, slides and saunas!
Polo Marco Experience can offer you much more
than a ski holiday in Europe!
As you have surely noticed, ideally roaming along the Alps with us, thanks to our insiders’ local knowledge, combined with the awareness of Indian travellers’ needs, we can craft perfectly customised itineraries.
Your clients might come for skiing in Europe, however we can easily combine mountains, lakes and sea; cold snow and warm thermal waters; adrenaline and relaxation… always optimising the timings and logistics.
